好不容易熬到了学期末，有点时间来写就读体验和项目信息了，希望自己能战胜拖延症，这篇不要烂尾……
一、Class profile
MIMS 其实是一个面向有全职工作经验的项目，每年招收的应届生数量很少，今年我知道的有 5（5 out of 49）位应届，如果是应届生的话可以再了解一下 UCB 的 IEOR 项目，跟 MIMS 有点像，会更 fresh graduate friendly 一点。
MIMS 项目每年招收的应届中国人数量有限，绝大多数都是很好的美本（UCB,Cornell, NYU 之类），陆本应届生每年的 head count 有 1-2 个，不出意外的话应该是清北（我是个中大奖的例外），我感觉我们学院真的很喜欢清北，今年有清华 EE，去年有清华建筑，前年招的陆本应届是北大。
二、What I like about MIMS
1）学生实力强
虽然有 peer pressure，但是从同学身上能学到特别多。可能就是，跟优秀的人在一起，自己也会慢慢变优秀。MIMS 的学生实力真的没话说，例如，我在 MIMS 最好的朋友从 georgetown 毕业，之前在 world bank 工作；另外一个印度朋友之前业余时间创办了印度版的 coursera，并且自己编写了平台上所有的 machine learning 课程（我 machine learning 都靠他带飞的）；还有 Caltech 学天体物理 minor CS 的大神，说实话我也不知道他来这个项目还能学到啥。特别宝贵的是，这些大牛们还特别的低调，特别的乐于助人。
2）选课灵活
基本上就是在满足毕业要求的前提下，什么院的课程都可以选。本科生研究生的课都能选，有想读博士的同学甚至可以选博士生的 research group meeting。其他院系比如 EECS，Jacobs Design Institute, 建筑系，Division of data science(undergrad)全部可选。因为 MIMS 学生的背景非常多元，本科专业包括但不限于 marketing, cog-sci, psychology, EE, CS, data science, stats, public policy, design……所以，选课的灵活性可能最大程度上保证每个人能够最大限度选到和自己 level 匹配的课程，能最大化地学习到知识。
3）项目时长两年，能找 summer internship
三、课程设置
我是 data science 方向的，所以在这里只说我选的课：
CS61A：Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs（本科生课程） 强烈推荐！这辈子上过最好的 python 课程，全美闻名的一节课！我觉得这门课作为一个学生的第一门 python 课程真的非常非常非常非常适合，除非你是 CS 专业毕业，我都强烈要求你学！伯克利的CS应该是全美最强之一，这节课也是全美的明星课程，有很多学校都会借鉴参考，硅谷公司的 HR 都知道的一门课！
课程 90% 使用 python，10% 会教 SQL。 课程强度非常大，每周 20 小时的 worload，会教到一些很重要的 software engineering 的概念，比如 Tree, recursion, data abstraction, 还会讲 environment diagram，也即 python 语言的运行环境。
一学期内要做完四个 project，第一个写一个掷骰子的游戏，第二个是：create a visualization of restaurant ratings using machine learning and the Yelp academic data set. In this visualization, Berkeley is segmented into regions, where each region is shaded by the predicted rating of the closest restaurant (yellow is 5 stars, blue is 1 star). 第三个，也是我觉得最喜欢的一个是用 python 写简化版的植物大战僵尸（图片见下）In this project, we will create a tower defense game called Ants Vs. Some Bees. As the ant queen, we populate our colony with the bravest ants we can muster. Our ants must protect our queen from the evil bees that invade your territory. Irritate the bees enough by throwing leaves at them, and they will be vanquished. Fail to pester the airborne intruders adequately, and our queen will succumb to the bees' wrath. This game is inspired by PopCap Games' Plants Vs. Zombies.第四个是用 python 为另一种编程语言 scheme 写一个interpreter.
Foundations of data science 这门课也是 CS/STATS 本科生的必修课之一，属于数据科学入门课，这节课会教很基本的coding，pandas, matplotlib 和 stats，data science 中中的一些基本概念 bootstrap, hypothesis testing, regression, classification 和一点点的 machine learning.我在本科的时候学过 stats，但是还是选了这门课，是一节轻轻松松的入门课，但是教的概念都非常实用，非常重要。
