Decision Models by Professor Peng Sun

This course teaches you how to address complex problems by using formal modeling frameworks. You’ll focus on decision making under conditions of uncertainty and constrained resources, using analytical techniques such as decision analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and optimization.

Peng Sun

Peng Sun is a Professor in the Decision Sciences area at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. He researches mathematical theories and models for resource allocation decisions under uncertainty, and incentive issues in dynamic environments. His work spans a range of applications areas, from operations management, economics, finance, marketing, to health care and sustainability. He serves an Associate Editor at Operations Research, and an Associate Editor at Management Science, two leading academic journals of the profession of Operations Research and Management Science.

Managerial Economics by Professor Leslie Marx

Delve into markets and how they work. You’ll examine the decisions of firms, consumers, and governments and how they interact to determine market outcomes as you learn about a variety of market structures.

Leslie Marx

Leslie M. Marx, PhD, Robert A. Bandeen Professor of Economics; BS (Duke University), MA (Northwestern University), PhD (Northwestern University) Professor Marx has research interests in game theory and industrial organization. Professor Marx’s research focuses on the problem of anti-competitive behavior by individuals and firms, including collusion, bid rigging, and anti-competitive contract provisions. She is currently on the editorial board for International Journal of Game Theory. She is the recipient of two National Science Foundation research grants, a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship, and a Sloan Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. Professor Marx was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Fencing Team and won the Veteran Fencing World Championship for ages 50-59 in 2017.

Global Markets and Institutions

Global Markets and Institutions explores how the same problem is resolved in different ways around the world, and how and why a successful solution in one country may not be exportable with the same degree of success. The course uses case studies to illustrate institutions in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, including examples of rules such as institutionalized corruption and punitive tariffs that impede commerce.

Tony O’Driscoll

Tony O’Driscoll teaches Duke Global Executive program. He heads Duke CE Labs for Duke CE.  In this role he focuses on discovering what’s next for leadership development. During his 18-year industry career, Tony held several leadership positions with Nortel Networks and IBM. Tony’s current research examines how emerging technologies are rapidly disrupting existing industry structures and business models. Prior to joining Duke Corporate Education, Tony served on the Faculty of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. At Fuqua, Tony played a key role in redesigning the Cross Continent MBA (CCMBA) program and served as Executive Director of Fuqua’s Center for Technology Entertainment and Media (CTEM), a research center dedicated to understanding the strategic, structural, and business-model issues with these vibrant and volatile industry sectors.
