I. STUDY PLAN
1) What is your purpose for the visa?
I’d like to apply a F-1 visa to pursue my MBA program at Xxx University located in Washington DC.
2) What will you do in USA?
Pursue a MBA degree at Xxx University.
3) What will you study in the United States?
MBA – Master of Business Administration. Through which I would like to obtain fundamental business skills in economics, finance, accounting and marketing and to polish my already strong management skills.
4) Why do you like a MBA?
My long-term goal is to run a successful business on my own. Through a MBA program, I will master all fundamental business skills that are necessary for running my future business. I had tried to run a software business when I was a doctoral student but failed to deal with numerous management, technical and HR issues. At Xxx I do accumulate more experience but still isolated under a R&D ceiling. A MBA program is my next logic step to obtain business skills in other areas such as marketing & finance in a relatively short time.
5) Are you going to study in USA?
Yes, I am. USA provides us the best MBA education – the best faculty, the strongest education experience and the most diverse classmates.
6) What do you do with your work for MBA?
I will study the core courses in the first year, including Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Economics and International Business, and have electives for my concentration in the second year. The latter includes a global experience, a required international travel focusing on an analysis of one international industry. In between, I’d like to do a Summer Internship at Xxxs, through which I may practice what I will learn in the first year.
7) Why do you want to study in USA?
Why people study WuShu in China, study karate in Japan and study tae-kwon-do in Korea? Because they originated from those countries and they have achieved a high level in those places. In the same way, USA is the birthplace of MBA and has led the MBA education for a century. With the best faculty, the highest level of business research, and the strongest education experience, US MBA programs bestow more to the students. More importantly, the best business talents from every part of the world come to the USA to pursue a MBA degree, which sets up an unsurpassed environment to learn from classmates. Additionally, my interest is international business. The US is a microcosm of the world, a melting pot of multiple cultures, in which I may obtain more and deeper understanding of different people from different regions. Moreover, studying in US also provides me a good chance to polish my English, the official language for international business.
8) Why are you interested in international business?
Because China needs such a kind of talents. Before I leave for my MBA in the US, Beijing Xxxs Limited has expressed an intension to employ me for its international development. Xxx definitely is not the only Chinese company who are aimed to the international market. Chinese companies have plentiful human resources and economic raw material, so our products will have a very competitive cost performance. They need a MBA with global vision to help them achieve their goal.

On the other hand, multinational IT giants are all aware that China is the largest booming market. Actually I am supposed to interview newcomers for Xxx today if I didn’t come here. Although Xxx is still laying off employees in the US, the number of China staff will be doubled. As I know, other international corporations, like Xxx and Xxx, are doing the same thing.

Without a doubt, international business talents are needed to bridge the advanced foreign experience and the inexpensive Chinese labor in order to produce state-of-the-art products for both domestic and international market. That trend was definitely strengthened after China joined WTO.
9) What is your major? In what aspect of your major will you study?
My major is MBA, in which fundamental business skills in economics, finance, accounting, marketing and management will be studied. My concentration is international business, which provides students with managerial perspective on conducting business in diverse economies, political systems, and cultures. Topics include how to trade, invest, and get license in global environment for firms. We discuss about the balance of payments trends and foreign exchange rate movements and their implications for international business management. The policies of governments and international organizations affecting international business are also discussed.
10) How do you know this Univ.?
The CEO of my company, Xxx Technologies, Ms. Patricia Russo, graduated from Xxx University, so did the former US president Bill Clinton. Xxx is a prestigious university throughout the world, especially strong in international business education. I knew the university for a long time although it was appealing to me last year after I did a thorough business school research through Internet and school brochures.
11) Why do you choose this Univ.?
First, Xxx University is very strong in the international business, an area I am interested in, – with its global curricula, its high presence of international students (over one-third), and the opportunities it provides to study business and management in other parts of the word.

Second, the school is located in the capital of the US, an exciting and dynamic city home to museums, monuments, world-class culture, and big-time sports. My MBA study will be hectic, but I still expect those 2 years in another country will be more lively and more energetic.
12) Do you know which school is the best in your major? What else?
Xxx’s international EMBA was ranked #1 in Strategy, Global Business by Business Week. Although its MBA program is not as famous as that at Harvard or Wharton, we share the same excellent faculty and textbooks with the EMBA program.
13) Is Xxx University the first university to give you the offer?
You said it. I applied all business schools in the 2nd round. When I first visited Xxx, the admission office did not yet start reviewing the 2nd round applications. Nevertheless, I received the admission email just one week later, as well as a remarkable scholarship.
14) How many universities have you applied? Which? Any other school admits you? So how many universities accept you?
I applied Xxx, yyy, xxx, xxx and xxx. Xxx and yyy offered me admission as well as scholarships and Michigan put me on the waiting list. Due to the weak economy, the competition of the MBA application is very fierce this year.
15) How long will you study in USA?
Two years. As most MBA students did, I will study the core courses in the first year and have electives for my concentration in the second year. The latter includes a global experience, a required international travel focusing on an analysis of one international industry.
16) Have you any scholarship?
Yes. I am awarded $xxx for the first academic year and $xxx for the second year due to my outstanding academic background, professional achievements and potential to contribute to the program.
17) Why do you receive financial aid from this Univ.?
The university awarded me $xxx scholarship all together because they appreciate my excellent academic background, outstanding professional achievements and strong potential to contribute to the Xxx MBA program.

I have a Ph.D degree and decent TOEFL/GMAT score. With strong technical background, I have three years project management experience at Xxx. As a main contact with Xxx R&D teams located in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France and India, I led the GSM software proprietary transition projects, delivered several telecommunication software release and pass an international quality certification with full score. Additionally, I am very active in extracurricular activities. For instance, I am the founder and president of Xxx English Club, which has about 180 club members.
18) When are you going to enter US?
I plan to enter US at the end of July. A MBA program at Xxx will be a hectic experience. I need two weeks before the program to deal with logistics.
19) Where will you live?
Most international Xxx students live in Arlington district, Virginia, which is only 20 minutes walk from the campus. I am contacting a 2-years MBA student to take his apartment after he graduates.

II. ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
20) What is your academic background?
I have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and my concentration was applying computer technologies into the electrical equipment design. Through 4 years at Xxx, I accumulated more telecommunication expertise. Therefore, I have a very strong academic background in IT area, which benefits my management position much in the IT industry.
21) When/where did you get your BS/MS?
I obtained a bachelor degree in 1994 and a Ph.D. degree in 1999 at Xxx University. Although my major was “Electrical Engineering”, I spent more times on IT expertise, say, applying the computer science into electrical industry.
22) What is your dissertation about?
My dissertation is about how to apply visualization technology, expert system, database technology, optimization technology and finite element method into the design of electrical equipment.
23) Can you give an example of your doctor research that is applied in our living?
My doctoral research was applied into the design of electrical cabinet and elements, which are used everywhere. For instance, in this building there are many lights and other electrical equipments, all of them are controlled by kind of central switchgear. My study focused on how to facilitate such a complex design with a computer.
24) Can your study be used for any military purpose?
I don’t think so. My research is for facilitating the design of electrical equipment and electrical network. Therefore, many electrical specific criteria were taken into consideration and it is only applicable to a specific area, electrical industry.
25) Why do you want a MBA since you have had a PhD degree? (Why do you change your major?)
A successful manager needs three level skills: Technical Skills, Human Skills and Conceptual Skills. A first-line manager needs more technical skills while a top manager needs more conceptual skills. My Ph.D. experience set up a solid technical foundation for me in the high-tech area and my next logic tool is a MBA degree, which may bring me more conceptual skills, say, the cognitive ability to see the organization as a whole and the relationship among its parts.
26) What's the difference between your major now and the major in USA?
My Ph.D. degree in engineering paves a way to be a first-line manager who needs more technical skills. To be a successful top manager or an entrepreneur, I need obtain more conceptual skills through a MBA program. Comparing with a pure academic degree, MBA education emphasizes more on broadening students’ business horizon, cultivating their analysis skills and providing them opportunities to practice what they learned on a team base. In some sense, MBA is a professional training rather than an academic study.
27) Is your transcript original?
Of course. The envelopes were sealed by the university.
28) What is the difficult class do you have?
The more effort you paid, the more excitement you will experience. With that paradigm, I don’t think there is any difficult class to me. I enjoy each obstacle and “difficulty” doesn’t exist in my vocabulary bank.
29) When and where did you take the GMAT test? When did you take the TOEFL test? How much is your TOEFL score?
I took the GMAT test in Beijing in Dec. 2002 and took the TOEFL in Luoyang in May 2003. Too many students registered the TOEFL test in Beijing and I had no as much time to register as they had. My GMAT score is xxx and my TOEFL score is xxx.

I took the GMAT exam twice since I am not satisfied with the first score. As a project manager at Xxx, I have not much time to prepare the exams. That’s why my scores are not as high as those of people who prepared the exams in full time.
30) What/where are you studying now? What’s your occupation?
I am a project manager at Xxx Technologies. The GSM/CDMA projects we are working on involve several international teams. I am a chief liaison with/for R&D hubs in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, India and China assuring timely and fiscally sound delivery and release of secure wireless software.
31) Why did you choose your present job? What’s your dream?
Xxx is a multinational IT giant with advanced technologies and mature management experience. I joined Xxx after my graduation. Starting from a software engineer, I moved up to a project manager one year later, which provided me more chances to accumulate management experience and coordinate an international team.

To run an IT business on my own is my long-term career goal. My dream is to lead a qualified team to produce successful products for the domestic and international market, to benefit the society, to win respect and to fulfill my personal value.
32) Who will support your MBA study?
Xxx University honored me $xxx scholarship and I will sponsor myself for the left part. Working at Xxx Technologies for 4 years and having a software business as a doctoral student, I have enough savings for the MBA study. Would you like to see my financial certificates? Those two pieces of certificates were issued by Bank of China, on which there is $xxx and xxx RMB, about $xxx all together.
33) How much do you earn?
My annual income is nearly $xxx, including salary, bonus, awards and stock from Xxx and other recompense for consulting with small IT companies. My monthly pretax salary is about xxxRMB. Here are my salary sheets of 2003, as well as the incoming tax forms. (If you like, I may show you my salary sheets in two years.) Due to my perfect performance, I were also honored some awards associated with money. This is a certificate of Xxx golden awards honored by our president. This is a team leader awards as a project manager. …

(I started to finance myself as soon as I enrolled university. In our institute, I was the richest student because I started a software business and won contracts from foreign companies. I earned almost $xxx during my doctoral study and left a R&D center to my succeeder.)
34) Why there is only one transaction record on your passbook? Why didn't you open one passbook instead of two?
My salaries were deposited into my account at Industrial and Commercial Bank and I also deposited much money into another account at Merchants Bank. To issue finance certificates in English, I transferred all of them into two accounts at Bank of China. I didn't want to put all eggs in one basket, so I opened two accounts instead of one. (The obsolete accounts have been thrown away since they are useless.)

Here is the history of the 3rd account. My company honored me two awards (xxxRMB & xxxRMB) in a form of insurance. I withdrew them in Jan. and Apr. respectively. In addition, I loaned xxx RMB to my brother for purchasing a house last year. He returned me the money in Feb. and Apr.

III. CAREER PLAN
35) What is your plan? What will you do after graduation?
I have two steps for my future career development in China.

First, after my graduation I would seek a senior management position in IT area. As a matter of fact, Beijing Xxxs Limited, a rising Chinese networks company, has intended to offer me such a position. Here is the letter of intend. With more than 1 billion RMB investment, more than 1000 staff members, and 28 branches throughout China, Xxxs has won a brilliant reputation in broadband IP network area. The customers include telecom carriers, banking organizations, government organs and education organizations. As of last year, its sales volume has achieved 450 million RMB. In the coming several years, Xxxs intends to grown to an international total network solution provider and promote its products, which has a competitive cost performance, to the global market. My MBA concentration is international business, a perfect match with the company’s need. I am confident that I would be capable of help the company to achieve its goal with strong business skills I learn from the MBA program.

Second, my long-term goal is to run an IT business on my own. Within 3 to 4 years to practice my business skills and collect useful business information, I will start my own business. It will be an international business in conjunction with telecommunication and IT service, an area I am on a competitive edge.

(In fact, when I was still a doctor student, I started a software business and developed a 3D container simulation system used to optimize the goods placement in containers/trucks or on plates. Although we won contracts from such renowned Japanese customers as Toyota, Sony Motor, Honda, etc., I was constantly immersed in numerous management, technical and HR issues. I joined Xxx after my graduation and accumulated some valuable experience: team building, developing and deploying an international product, quality control, cooperation with international partners and dealing with risks and changes. Nevertheless, I was still isolated under a R&D ceiling. Through a MBA program, I’d like to master all fundamental business skills that are necessary for running my future business.)
36) If you cannot find such a position, what will you do?
In that case, I would take a risk to start my own business directly. In fact, when I was still a doctor student, I started a software business and developed a 3D container simulation system used to optimize the goods placement in containers/trucks or on plates. Although we won contracts from such renowned Japanese customers as Fuji, Toyota, Sony Motor, Honda, etc., I was constantly immersed in numerous management, technical and HR issues. With a MBA education, I believe I have enough knowledge and tools to handle those issues.

At the first beginning, I may start a franchise business to distribute the product and service of international corporation such as Xxx or domestic company such as Xxx. Along with the time, we will develop our own product and create our own brand.
37) What will your salary be then?
I hope to double my current salary but money doesn’t mean all. Lee Iacocca proved the courage of his convictions by working for $1 a year when he first came to Chrysler. (A hero at 3M persisted with a new product without a salary and finally was promoted to vice president.) For me, self-actualization is the most important.
38) You can also make more of this kind of money in US, why don't you want to earn more?
My long-term career goal is to run a business on my own. I admit that temporarily I may make more money in US, but in that case perhaps I will never realize my dream because I have less chances to practice all-round business skills and set up a solid network. Without the competitiveness that I have in China, it is hard for me to earn more from a long-term perspective.
39) Why don't you come back to Xxx after graduation? Will Xxx pay you more?
(A mature big company or a rising small company, different people would have different choices. Some prefer to be a small fish in a big pond while others would like to be a big fish in a small pond. I am one of the latter.) Perhaps Xxx will not give me a salary as descent as Xxx will, but a rising company definitely provides more opportunities for me. For instance, I may obtain more from the stock after the company is listed. More importantly, I may assume more functionalities in a promising small company, which will set up a solid foundation for my long-term career goal – to run a business on my own.
40) Have you informed your supervisor about your plan?
Before I started to apply business schools I had a lunch with my supervisor, a German, and told him my development plan. He was very supportive and wrote a recommendation letter for me. Would you like to see the recommendation letter? This year I transferred to another department. I have not yet informed my current supervisor because I won't resign until July.
41) You have a decent job in China, why do you come back to campus?
My long-term goal is to run a successful business on my own. At xxx I do accumulate some valuable experience such as teaming building, developing and deploying a large-scale product, cooperating with international partners and dealing with risks and changes. Nevertheless, I am still isolated under a R&D ceiling, where I can not acquire experience in finance, marketing and accounting, which are necessary for running my future business.

To achieve a higher step, people need to stretch from their comfortable zone. I do have a great status now, but with a MBA degree I would have a more brilliant future. To survive, both a lion and an antelope have to run; to succeed, either the rich or the poor need to strive.
42) Give me three reasons that you will come back to China?
a. First, my dear wife, my family is in China, so are my parents, all of my kinship and close friends. I have set up a solid network in China through 30 years effort. Immersing in the traditional Chinese culture for a so long time, I am inseparable from the Chinese lifestyle and specially the wonderful Chinese cuisine. (More importantly, as a bilinguist I will have more competitiveness in my motherland, a place that I am proud of, forever.)
b. Second, Xxxs, a rising Chinese telecommunication corporation, has an intention to employ me as a senior manager for the international market. Here is the letter of intend. Good managers or entrepreneurs achieve goals through the members of their teams. Only in China I have more chances to lead a big team. Actually, in my current organization managers lead four times more subordinates than their counterparts in the US do. I am confident that Xxx China would also welcome me back with stronger idea and stronger tools. No one would deny that China has the biggest telecommunication engineer poor and potential market throughout the world. Even at the terrible lay-off tide of worldwide IT industry, many companies still increased their investment in China. In contrast with our miserable US colleagues, we call the lay-off event a “lucky draw”. Two laid-off employees in my department treated us a dinner because with a big compensation package they got job offers just one week later from our competitors Xxx and Xxx respectively. Furthermore, China provides me a superlative environment and resources to realize my long-term goal - to set up my own business in conjunction with telecommunication and IT service. China government offers returned students many preferential treatments, such as tax exemption, low interest loan and special welfare.
c. Last, I have a car and live in an almost-free apartment because my wife is a university faculty. It takes her only 5 minutes to walk to her classes and I am free to use the great facilities on campus such as playgrounds and the gym. In 2008, we may watch some live Olympic games just on campus. Could I receive so much benefit by living in the US?
43) Can you explain why 90% Chinese students didn't come back?
On one hand, it is attributable to the Chinese education system. Many students never thought over the career path of their own. What they did is just following others’ suit - spending years in preparing TOEFL and GRE examinations, enrolling any American university that gave them an offer and money, then staying in the US not knowing what is the next step. On the other hand, many ordinary Chinese go abroad for a poor dream – a house, a car and a stable job to pay the endless loan. However, this case never ever applies to the people who have a higher career goal like me. My dream is to lead a qualified team to produce successful products for the domestic and international market, to benefit the society, to win respect and to fulfill my personal value. I cannot imagine myself doing boring work like a robot in the daytime and being a “coach potato” at night day in and day out. It’s easy to be ordinary, but it takes guts to excel. Guts belong to only 10% of the people, like me. (Eagles never flock. You can only gather one at a time.)

(Finally, I don’t think the number you quoted applies to MBA students. During my 3 months stay in the US this year, I visited several business schools and talked to many Chinese MBA students in the US. As a matter of fact, all of them have a kind of idea of coming back China and half of them are preparing to do so after graduation. )
44) Do you have any friends who came back China after graduation from the US?
Yes, of course. When Xxx China, the organization at which I was working, set up its branches in Beijing & Shanghai, all managers are Chinese who graduated from the US. They came back China with a belief that they would have a brighter future in China. The fact is that they have had a much better career development than their colleagues who left in the US. My friend xxx, a Michigan MBA, is a senior marketing manager at AsiaInfo and my friend xxx, a Purdue MBA, is a HR manager at Xxx. All of them returned China immediately after obtaining their MBA degrees.
45) Why won’t you stay in the States?
a. I go to States for a MBA program. My purpose is to learn business skills, to broaden horizon and to accelerate my career development rather than to seek a job in the States. If I want to stay in the States, why don’t I apply an academic degree with a full scholarship? In these years a computer science master can find a descent job more easily than a MBA. If I want to stay in the States, why didn’t I start application when I was in the university? Half of my teenager classmates went abroad after graduation but I chose to pursue my own career development. MBA is just a tool and my dream can only be realized in China.
b. Admittedly, some MBA students also stay in the States. But they focus on accounting or finance, subjects that have close relation with mathematics; everyone knows Chinese are good at mathematics. But my background and interest is management. What competitive edge do I have comparing with my American counterparts, who are perfect in conducting presentations and communicating with English – their mother tongue. However, in China I would be the best motivator and communicator with outstanding bilingual skills. More importantly, good managers or entrepreneurs achieve their goals through a team. Only in China I have more chances to lead a big team.
c. As a fast developing country, China requests more talents with expertise, especially talents with advanced management skills. In contrast, many American companies are cutting off their management staff. Take the lay-off events at Xxx as an example, our Chinese colleagues call it a “lucky draw”. In contrast with those miserable US colleagues, two laid off people in my organization came back and treated us a dinner because with a remarkable compensation package they received offers from Xxx and Xxx respectively just one week later. Can you image such a big cheese in US now? According to a statistics, China needs more than 350,000 senior management talents but only 8,000 MBA students are cultivated each year. After China joined WTO, China becomes a critical part of the global economy, so more international talents are in dire need.
d. Within 30 years, I have set up a solid network in China, which is critical part for a successful businessman. All of my kinship is in China and I am used to a Chinese style life. Why do I give up all of my ties to exchange a floating status in the States? Why do I pretend to enjoy the American parties if I am not used to them? Why do I bear with the Western foods that I don’t like? Why do I stand with the nostalgia day in and day out?
46) Can you promise that you will not be attracted?
Sure. I have stayed in USA for 3 months and had stayed in Europe for a while. Each nation has its attractive point, but only in my motherland I can find the feeling of belongingness. Everything is a two-edge sword. Driving a car brings us convenience, but at the same time we lose the excises chance in riding a bicycle. More importantly, all of my family and relationships are in China, the overwhelming affection on my country that I accumulated through 30 years will surpass any attraction from outside.
47) Why not a MBA program in China?
Because US provides the best MBA education with the best faculty, the most diverse classmates and the strongest education experience.

First, the US business schools have the first-class faculty. They are not only accomplished teachers and renowned researchers but also experienced practicer. For instance, most faculty at Xxx business school have held positions in business or government. As I know, most faculty at China business schools have none of business experience at all.

Second, my visit to several US business schools this year convinced me that I would learn more from the excellent classmates. Xxx is ranked No. 17 worldwide by Financial Times. Therefore, 270 future business leaders from each part of the world come to the school each year. Such good chances to communicate and exchange with business elites with different background is unaccessible in China.

Last but not least, I am interest in international business, which can only be practiced in an international environment. No other countries have so many diversities as America does.
48) What kind of good things do you know about America?
When I was in the US, I was impressed by the self-reliance of American people. They own nothing to any man, they expect nothing from any man; they always consider themselves as standing alone, and they believe their whole destiny is in their own hands. One of the most important values associated American people is the value of self-improvement. Everywhere you can see people is reading, not novels but some kind of self-help books.

On the other hand, developing its industry for several decades, US organizations accumulated plentiful management experience in each industry, from prestigious business schools such as Harvard to star CEOs such as Jack Welch, from scientific management at Henry Ford to learning organization at Xxx Technologies. As a project manager at Xxx, I witness and experience many advanced management approaches, which inspires me to spend two years for a systematic MBA study in US.
49) What is the thing you like best in America?

50) What is the thing you like best in China?
The thing I like best in China is its population. I know many Chinese hate it, but why don’t we think from another perspective. On one hand, China has plentiful inexpensive labor resources, which I need to expand my company in the future; On the other hand, the more population it has, the more marketing potential it is. According to a research, most of the population in China still is nearly 10 years away from their peak buying years. Imagine what a profit it is if every Chinese is using some product produced by your company.
51) What is the thing you don’t like most in China?
I hate some Chinese who don’t love their motherland and have blind faith in foreign things.
52) What are things you don’t like in America?
The high divorce rates and the level of violent crime. When I visited Chicago, I often met blacks begging money on the street. One of my American friends warned me that if you left a car in the Chicago city, thieves would remove everything until a frame in the midnight. Moreover, Americans carry their favorite value of individual freedom too far, to the edge of social chaos.
53) Who do you know in the US? Have you ever been in American before? Have you ever been to other counties? Have you ever gone abroad?
I have several American colleagues since Xxx headquarters in US. This year I stayed in Chicago & New Jersey for 3 months to smooth the cooperation between our China team and US teams. On the other hand, I visited Xxx University twice, where I know some MBA students.

Moreover, I have also stayed in Germany & France for a while to initiate a GSM software proprietary transition project, which involves Xxx R&D teams in U.K., Germany, France, India & China. I had also a U.K. visa but my business trip was canceled due to a schedule change.
54) Where is your wife? How old is she?
My wife is a successful faculty at University of Science & Technology Beijing. She is 29 years old, a golden time to develop her career.
55) Do you want your wife to go with you?
Of course I want my wife to be with me. Nevertheless, it is very hard for her to give up everything she owns and become a dependent because she is a very successful faculty at University of Science & Technology Beijing. More possibly, she will visit me during the long summer or winter vacations. You cannot imagine how she loves her current job and enjoys staying with her students. With a master degree in English, she also published some academic papers, compiled a set of higher education textbooks and translated a business book. Consequently, she is a terrific teacher in her students’ eyes and she is a dean assistant as well.
56) Are you sure your wife will keep relation with you during your graduate study?
I am 100% sure that our relation will be kept as close as present, if not closer. During my employment at Xxx, I also stayed several months abroad. Every time, the temporary separation gathered our hearts closer.
57) Any relative in the US?
No. I come from a traditional Chinese family and all of my kinship is in China.
58) Oh, you will not come back to China after you graduate, right?
Definitely wrong. I will come back China as soon as I finish the MBA program. My career goal is to run an IT company on my own. China has the unsurpassed marketing and human resources that I need. I have no time to linger around in other countries.

IV. PERSONAL INFORMATION
59) Do you have a business card/name card?
Yes, here you are. Feel free to contact me if there is anything I may help.
60) How long have you been in Beijing? Why did you live in Beijing? Where is your HUKOU?
I have been in Beijing for 4 years. After my graduation from Xxx University, I joined Xxx China, which is located in Beijing. At the same time, my HUKOU was transferred to Beijing.
61) Where do you live?
I am living in an apartment in University of Science & Technology Beijing since my wife is a faculty there. The monthly rent is only $10. It takes my wife only 5 minutes to walk to her classes and I am free to use the great facilities on campus. In 2008, some Olympic games will be conducted in the new school gym, which is just one block from our apartment.
62) Where are your parents? Where are you from? Where is your hometown? Have you got any brother or sisters?
My parents are in Xian Yang city, the capital of Qin dynasty. Both of them are retired Chinese teachers. I have one sister and one brother. My sister is an officer at Shaanxi Province Archives and my brother is a general manager at E-safenet company in Beijing.
63) What do you do in your spare time? What’s your funny? Why?
I have led two hobby clubs at Xxx – a Basketball Club and a Music Club. Sports competition continues to be a part of my life, particularly basketball that saw me thrice awarded as MVP in university. I also compose folk music, some of which has been aired on local radio.

I never mind making fun of myself. For instance, when I introduce myself to a foreigner I would say that I graduated from “Terra Cotta” University because more foreigners know “Terra Cotta” than “Xxx University”.
64) What is your best/worst quality?
I am a principle-centered person. In some people’s eyes it is my best quality while in others’ eyes it is the worst. I only follow my principles rather than others opinion or some material benefits. Some of those principles are common such as the principle of fairness. Others are oriental specially. For instance, I believe I have responsibility for taking care my parents when they get older.
65) What is your favorite American movie?
Brave Heart. It is the best films I have ever seen. I have moved by the braveness of the Scottish hero William Wallace (played by Mel Gibson) for years. I bet no one will forget the scene that William Wallace was yelling “freedom” before being executed. 500 years ago, William inspired Scots to win the fight against their oppressor eventually. Today, the spirit can also inspire me to confront obstacles.
66) Which is your favorite restaurant (café)? What food do you like to eat?
My wife and I favor Sichuan cuisine. We often have a dinner at a nearby Sichuan restaurant named “Ba(1) Shu(3) Jiang(1) Hu(2) Cai(4)”. Besides, I also like wheaten food, such as noodle, dumpling and steamed bread, since I come from Shaanxi province.
67) What is your favorite pet (animal)? Why?
I have no time to raise a pet. But if possible, I would like to raise a German Shepherd because dogs are loyal and can be a good friend.
68) Do you have a cup of coffee every morning?
No, I prefer to a cup of green tea.
69) Do you think who is the greatest leader in the world? Why?
Chinese former chairman Deng, Xiaoping is the greatest leader in my eyes. Without his correction of the Culture Revolution, I would never have chance to go to college, not to mention studying abroad, since my parents are all intellectuals and my grandparents are lords and capitalists. In fact, Mr. Deng emancipated millions of families like mine and led China into a right development track – respecting science & technology and emphasizing on the economic development. The dramatic change of China in those 20 years is obvious to all. Additionally, I admired Mr. Deng so much when he gave the “one country two systems” solution to the issue of Hong Kong and Macao, a definite breakthrough in the Chinese leader’s mindset.
70) Who do you think is the best president of the U.S?
Franklin Roosevelt. Overcoming polio, he was the only president to be reelected three times. In peace and in war he always had the people behind him. Having a breakthrough in American’s traditional mindset, he strengthened the power of government and created jobs for millions of people. He was the greatest leader in dealing with economic problems as well as military issues.

V. MISCELLANEOUS
71) How long have you prepared your visa interview? Have you prepared the interview in New Oriental?
I prepared the interview for a couple of days. As a project manager, I planned everything in advance. I am capable to explain myself clearly and I don’t see any necessity to seek help from others.
72) Would you like to accept the yellow card and go to window X?
I appreciate it.
