Cincinnati OBAIS （Operation Business Analytics and Information System）PhD 面经 with Prof. Sherae Daniel & Prof. Yichen Qin [2020.02.05]

Timeline:

• 1月13号提交申请，
• 1月30号收到面试邀请，
• 2月5号面试。

面试官是整个committe，但邮件里只提到了Prof. Sherae Daniel 和Prof. Yichen Qin, 老师们都特别好，很approachable，缓解了第一个面试的紧张！整个过程主要是Prof. Yichen Qin在提问，Sherae补充了一个问题。问题包括：

1. Self introduction
2. Why PhD？
3. Why this program? follow up 问了How did you know our program?
4. Any specific professors that you would like to work with?
5. What do you want to gain from the program?
6. Future goal? （我回答了open to both industry and academia, prefer industry。其实我内心是坚定industry的，但看到学生的placement都是academia,所以这样答了，于是埋下一个雷……）
7. Introduce the research that you are most proud of
8. Reserch 分三类，第一类是theoretical proof，第二类是explore or improve algorithm，第三类是data-driven和 real-world problem analysis, prefer哪一类或者对哪一类觉得comfortable？
9. 又回到了future goal的问题！决定你make decision on future goal的最重要因素是什么？出现什么signal你能最终make decision？
10. Imageine the job that you most dream of, can you descibe what does it look like? 这个是Sherae问的，我答的没有很具体，不过还好被另一个老师接着提问我就顺利水过去了
11. Strength and weakness?
12. 高中时候是art 还是 science? committee里一位女老师问的，感觉是中国人哈哈哈
13. Any question for us? 我问了research怎么获取data，和company之间有没有collaboration？还问了第5年没有funding，大家都是怎么survive的哈哈哈~

整个面试大概30分钟，氛围很friendly，问题也还算比较正常，还好没有扣着我的research问。我觉得这个program的faculty挺强的，近几年新招了好多stat的老师，很多老师和PhD学生都是finance和Statistics复合背景，还是很想去这个项目的！！！这次学到一个小tip，career service的consultant建议我我写reference打印带过去，实在被问懵了可以淡定地看一眼，我带了整整4页纸，还好没用上哈哈哈！明天还有一场面试，发个面经攒人品，希望大家都面试顺利offer多多！
