1. Why do you want to study in USA? Why do you choose US while not Japan or Canada? Why not a Master’s degree in China?
I think there are several reasons:
Firstly, when China’s businesses join the global economy and international companies seek to enter the Chinese market, there exit greater needs for persons with a solid foundation of knowledge of the global picture, a mastery of foreign languages and a good ability in cross-cultural communication.
Secondly, China’s tax laws are evolving ever faster to accommodate brand new business concepts, such as share swap, special purpose vehicle, controled foreign company, trust and stock option. As a result a series of new tax regulations, amendments of existing tax rules and tax reforms are underway so as to bring China’s tax legislation and environment in line with the international trends and practices.
Thirdly, investment from the US investors into China is significant. Many of our clients are prestigious US companies. Based on my own experiences, I understand they do have needs for tax professionals with knowledge of both China and US tax for their Chinese subsidiaries’ global reporting and management purposes.
Thus, I aspire after an international graduate study in taxation, especially in the states. I believe such an experience will definitely furnish me with not only international tax knowledge but also many other skills, such as social, cultural, business and others which will bring me an intangible added-value that will benefit me all my life. At the same time, as far as I know, our Tax Department is planning on providing certain US tax services to our US clients investing in China in foreseeable future. When I am already prepared for the upcoming opportunities and challenges, I must receive good rewards in return.
2. Why do you think it is time for you to pursue a degree now?
I have been working in XX for more than XX years since graduation from university. I expect to be promoted as a Tax Manager in XX. As a Tax Manager, on the one hand, I will have much more exposure to client meetings and business promotion; on the other hand, I will take more responsibilities and need to handle more and more engagements independently. In order to successfully cope with the challenges that I will face as a Manager or a Senior Manager or even a Partner in future, I do feel now is a good time for me to pursue a graduate study abroad to refresh and enrich myself before moving on to the next stage of my career as a tax professional.
