Just to clarify some doubts you may have. RD applications started to be seen on 15th Jan, not before. ED applications were reviewed till that date, so if you applied after 15th October, your application was put into a "hold" till 15 Jan. After that date, they started reviewing RD applications, and they started in the application order, thus those who submitted on 16th October are going to be reviewed first. If you applied in January, you will have to wait for all applicants who submitted before you to be reviewed, and that takes time. Do not worry about how much is your application in the same status (received, in process, etc).

The status order is first received, then in process, then invited to interview (not always, as you may be invited to interview or not), then thank you for interviewing, last acceptance (if you are lucky).

After interviewing you can wait for 2 weeks or 1 day. In my case I was accepted 2 days after interviewing, but I know others who had to wait for 2 weeks or more.

Most of the times you will receive a mail saying that your status has changed, but it is not true in every status change, so check you on line status page once in a while. In my particular case, I received the first mail when In process, and after when admitted. Interview invitations are announced by email. You will receive a letter from admissions congratulating you and giving you the possibility to interview (it is not mandatory, but suggested). You will be given 3 possible interviewers (you will be given names, email address and phone numbers). You can schedule an interview with any of the suggested interviewers (you will have to contact them). After the interview is arranged you will have to write in the application (you will find a link at the status page) who the interviewer is and the time appointed.

Interviews are held by alumni or actual students, no admission staff. The interview is blind, and in a very relaxed format. There are no standard questions but the usual (why columbia, career goals, etc). Be prepared to answer about yourself (past career, what do you enjoy doing, etc).

After all the suffering, if you are lucky, you will get an acceptance letter.

Hope this helps, any other doubt please ask

Columbia Business School has a rolling admissions process. So they will send out invitations frequently, just be patient.  As far as I know, several people got Columbia interview invitation while didn\'t post on the board.  Among them, a guy interviewed in SH has been enrolled by ED.

In 2003, the B-school interviewed 41% of its full-time MBA applicants, and 86% of its admitted applicants.

I wanna give some tips to those who don\'t get any call from the office. I heard from a girl who graduated CBS last year and used to take part in the admission process. she told me the evaluation for the second round candidates has started already and some people were admitted and received ding letter without an interview. if their other candidacy is not so way below the average, those who were dinged  wrote poor essays. She meant essays are a real big deal...  Moreover, They doesn\'t count on the interview too much.  I don\'t know how admission process is going but I think you guys don\'t have to worry. you are gonna get an vanilla envelope sometime soon.  Good luck..

The following paste is very detailed and accurate according to my own experice.  I think it\'s helpful to all Columbia applicants who haven\'t got interview.

I just thought I would post the timing of the status changes on my application, and a description of how my interview went with an amazing Columbia alumni "Ambassadir"

Submitted and "In Process" -- 1/5
"Pending Decision" -- 1/10
 "Invited to interview" -- 2/16
Interviewed today -- 2/20
From what the alumni "Ambassador" told me, I expect my application to go complete in about a week, and then receive a final decision in approximately 2-4 weeks after that.  He also told me that he is pretty sure that the scholarships/fellowships aren\'t even considered until most of the final admits are made, and then the AdCom delivers the stack of admits to the fellowship committee, who in turn decides which lucky few get this free money.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT YET INTERVIEWED, I thought I would share my experience to allay some of the fears and questions that you might have about this process.  When I was invited, I was given a choice of 3 alumni "Ambassadors" to call and schedule appointments.  Although the AdCom letter said to call all 3 and go with the earliest time, I was lucky to call a \'98 grad and schedule with him right away.
The alumni rep and I mutually agreed on a time to meet -- 11:00 AM this morning in a local coffee shop convenient for him.  He was incredibly personable and friendly on the phone, but he told me to email my resume and confirm the appointment date in Columbia\'s online system so he could get the appropriate forms (he did happen to get the forms at the same instant that I confirmed the date on the system--it is an automatic process, so DON\'T FORGET TO DO THIS RIGHT AWAY WHEN YOU SCHEDULE A TIME).  We both arrived at the shop at 10:30 AM---and we concluded our discussion at 2:00 PM.  Not 12:00 PM, but 2:00 PM--when I looked at my watch, I was amazed to see that we spent almost 3 1/2 hours talking.  In all my years of i-banking around the world, I never felt more comfortable in an interview setting with anybody.  He was extremely polite, courteous, engaging, and was VERY VERY excited and enthusiastic about Columbia.  Although he did ask the basic "why MBA" "why now" and "why columbia", it did not feel like an interview at all.  All these questions were just addressed in the conversation.  We discussed a wide variety of topics, ranging from the specifics of deals that I worked on to places we traveled in different parts of the world.  I felt as if the interview at Columbia is really intended to be a two sided process--he wanted to get to know me AS A PERSON better, and also wanted to sell me on virtually every aspect of the Columbia MBA experience.  I do think that my preparation for the interview--visiting the school, attending a class, and talking to a lot of current students--really helped our conversation.  He knew I was truly interested in what Columbia had to offer, and that I was just not another HBS or Stanford hopeful who is looking at CBS as a back-up.
Other than doing the appropriate research about the program, I think it is VERY IMPORTANT to show your genuine interest in the program, above and beyond the standard "it has a great reputation and location".  For me, the most difficult aspect of our discussion was centered aroung the "which other schools did you apply to, and if you got in all, where would you go?" question.  I was completely honest in my answer, and I think he appreciated that.  From what I have seen and from what he told me about the school, PERSONAL QUALITIES are very important for CBS.  While CBS offers amazing resources for a student\'s professional advancement, there was one constant that I noticed about all the students (and alumni) I met from CBS -- they are all very personable, fun people who work hard, and play hard.  The only other school that I experienced this same level of enthusiasm was at Wharton.  CBS has come a long way, and I highly recommend anyone who can visit the school to do so.
Best of luck to all CBS applicants.  If anybody has any further questions about my truly amazing and inspiring interview experience, please let me know.

Although 也有可能是好事。
Dear Atongmu,
Although this year we received three times application from mainland China, your application still outshines most of your competitors.  The admission commission is very impressed by your qualification and therefore decide to offer you admission to 哥大 Two-Year Full-Time MBA Program starting from August 2004.
FYI, we made the decision also because we received 380 supporting emails from members of  https://www.chasedream.com. They all reported that they appreciate your work in the on-line chat rooms.
Sincerely Yours,
真心祝愿你能够化险为夷!

Hi Atongmu, Helengong and any other bro. or sis. who have interviewed with Columbia alumni ambassdors,
Did you choose the Chinese or foreign alumni?
Were they nice or challenging?
What questions did they ask?

Thank you very much!
